Amalivaca, Venezuelan Folklore II

Amalivaca

God Creator of the world and of men. Also known by other tribes as: Amaruaca and Amarivaca.

In indigenous mythology, Amalivaca was the creator of humanity, the Orinoco River and the wind. In principle he made men immortal but in punishment for their faults, he made them mortal. It is said that many years ago there was a great flood.

Amalivaca then left in a canoe to travel the world and together with his brother Vochi were repairing the damages of the flood, after which only a couple of living humans remained. They went to a large mountain carrying moriche palm seeds and from there dispersed them by throwing them into the world. From these seeds were born the men and women who populate the planet.
