Traditional Witchcraft

Traditional Witchcraft

From: Wicca! Love & Soul

A line that separates tradition from modern shall be defined in current times, this will help us learn the proper way to perform or even to cancel certain types of magic. Traditional witchcraft is an old but powerful branch of witchcraft that was practiced commonly by our ancestors for hundreds and thousands of years. Traditional Witchcraft is not the same as Wicca and is not spiritism. Witchcraft in its old tradition is based on practice outdoors, spells abundant in symbolism, rhymes and certain herbs.

Traditional Witchcraft has a strong focus in the worship of the forces of nature, the oldest Gods of humanity, herbal remedies and reading and interpretation of the future through natural phenomena, while the more modern witchcraft is highly influenced by spiritism, astrology and even psychology.

Nowadays it is easy to find thousands of books in any library that address the issue of witchcraft, everyone from his point of view. It is difficult to maintain a neutral look when you are so constantly exposed to the opinions and experiences of others. Today is often to combine (even I do it) certain forms of classic witchcraft elements with more modern elements as alchemy or Feng Shui.

The mistake is to do it without study or enough experience, but it never hurts to experiment, although it is very important to differentiate a formula to another. In this book I am inspired by the traditional magic and add some more modern elements but everyone can develop its own formula, provided it has been studied and researched enough to have good results. It is useless to make spells and rituals more colorful or unique if the result is not what we expect.

In more traditional times of witchcraft there was no famous “Wiccan Rede” which was created centuries later to impose standards on the magic and the practice of the Law of the Triple was not exercised either, which means that all your actions, whether they are good or bad, return to you triplicated even if they are somehow justified. In those days, witches used to be more practical, performed personal sacrifices in exchange for power to change events in their favor, so it was also a common practice to sacrifice animals, which were raised by witches before being sent back to the bowels of the earth.

In modern practice we find laws and quite convincing rules, as the Triple Law, which is bound to the individual karma, which in turn keeps out many witches, law can be ignored by the practitioner provided them to make a suitable sacrifice, for in magic nothing can be achieved for nothing in exchange for the same value.

Witchcraft at that time used to be more direct, more powerful, less methodical and simple, yet became a danger to non-practitioners because witches could exercise their powers left and right on other influencing facts at their convenience by repudiation of karma and the law of universal balance.
